North Dakota Chief Information Officer Shawn Riley today announced Ravi Krishnan as Chief Data Officer (CDO). He will be responsible for helping reinvent government through technology and enhanced user experiences for citizens and stakeholders.  

“Our goal is to lead the nation in innovation and a citizen-centric approach to government. Krishnan will be a fantastic addition to Team ND as we work across state government to Empower People, Improve Lives and Inspire Success,” Riley said. 

Krishnan brings over two decades of experience in the data management space, having led large transformation efforts at various companies. His prior experience includes serving as the head of analytics and decision transformation at TransUnion, head of data strategy at Discover and consultant to several Fortune 500 companies. He has a MBA from the University of Chicago-Booth School of Business and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in business administration from Florida Atlantic University.

“The State of North Dakota is investing in building its information technology capabilities to improve the customer experience and enable data-driven decision making. Investments in cloud, automation, machine learning and AI are exciting areas for us to explore and harness for improved experiences and cost savings,” said Krishnan. “A solid foundation has been laid and the stage is now set for taking this initiative to the next level. I look forward to the opportunity to bring my background and experience to public service, and help North Dakota become a leader in data and analytics.” 

Krishnan will assume the role effective Nov. 1 and will oversee data management, data science and development areas for a suite of applications for state agencies.
