What is it:
Business Analysis (BA) services for existing IT systems fall under the category of Maintenance and Operations (M&O). These services focus on supporting ongoing system enhancements, small projects, defect resolution, and changes to meet evolving business needs. BAs apply a combination of IIBA knowledge areas—including requirements elicitation, lifecycle management, planning, strategy analysis, and solution evaluation—using best-practice tools and techniques tailored to each initiative.
What do you get with the service:
- Elicitation & Collaboration: The BA facilitates requirements-gathering sessions with stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure accurate documentation of the current problem or change request. The level of detail is adjusted to the scope and complexity of the initiative.
- Analysis & Planning: The BA creates a plan to guide analysis activities, including stakeholder identification, scheduling of requirements sessions, and establishing governance and decision-making protocols. For larger efforts, formal planning deliverables may be developed. The BA also monitors progress to ensure analysis work stays on track.
- Requirements Lifecycle Management: Throughout the effort, the BA ensures that business requirements remain traceable, relevant, and prioritized. As project changes arise, the BA facilitates discussions, evaluates impacts, and ensures that mid-project adjustments are approved, documented, and clearly understood by stakeholders.
How do you request service:
If your agency needs maintenance per your M&O agreement, NDIT’s Self Service Portal may be used to submit a generic request with “Maintenance and Project Support” in the description and any other details you wish to include. If you don’t have an MOU, say this in the Request.
Once approved by your agency, you’ll be contacted by a member of the BA Team to verify and begin the work.
Billing model:
This should be included in your agency's M & O Budget.
